The genus Ziziphus Mill. (Rhamnaceae) in the Caribbean

Curriculum

• Study at the Institute of Biology, Humboldt University, Berlin, Germany; in 1996 "Diploma" in Biology with thesis on morphology and systematics of the genus Ziziphus in the Caribbean ("Zur Morphologie und Systematik der Gattung Ziziphus Mill. (Rhamnaceae) in der Karibik").
• Practical work in Cuba in March 1996 and in the "Nationalpark Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft" at the Baltic Sea shore in Germany from May to September 1996.
• March to August 1997 training in "System engineering in heterogeneous networks running MS Windows NT and UNIX", certification as Microsoft Certified Product Specialist and Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer.
• Since September 1997 Systems Engineer at CompuNet, Frankfurt/Main.

Projects

• Technical webmaster of the research group "Atlas der Verbreitung palaearktischer Vögel"
  This project was hosted at www.museum.hu-berlin.de/zool/ornithol. After the research group at this institution was discontinued, a new website is presented here.
• Programming of a specialized DELTA-file editor running on MS Windows.
  The DEscriptional Language for TAxonomy format is the internationally recognized standard for coding descriptive taxonomic information, which was introduced by Mike Dallwitz in 1973. Programs within the DELTA-package have facilities for maintaining data, producing descriptions, keys and much more. But there is no sophisticated editor included.
  The program I am working on should enable you to do your taxonomic work without worry about the format or integrity of your data files. It will make it easy to add, delete, copy and move characters, taxa and other items. Also natural language descriptions will be generated. The program is still under development and not yet released, but you can contact me for further informations or to become a beta-tester.
