Born in Passau (Bavaria). University studies in botany, zoology, and ecology. 1992-1994 PhD study (granted by NaFöG and DAAD). 1995-1997 Research Assistant, BRYOSTRAT Project, Peru (DFG; Prof. Dr H. Kürschner, Systematische Botanik & Pflanzengeographie, FU Berlin). 1997-1999 Free-lance consultant (fauna, flora, vegetation and landscape-ecology in Berlin and Brandenburg) and Project Assistant the BGBM. 1999-2001 DFG research grant; performance of the "PONTAURUS Project". 2001-2004 Research Assistant, DFG-research group "Functional aspects in a tropical rainforest in S Ecuador: Diversity, dynamic processes and potentials of use from an ecosystem viewpoint", subproject "Life strategies and adaptations of epiphytic bryophytes" (Prof. Dr. H.
