Teaching:

  • Lecturer, Beuth Hochschule Berlin (Beuth HS, University of Applied Sciences Berlin): Lectures and courses in Fundamental & Systematic Botany, Tropical Crops & Tropical Cropping, Indoor Horticulture, etc. Supervision or co-supervision of 10 diploma theses on various fields of tropical cropping (e. g., sustainable coffee and vanilla cropping in Uganda; sustainable use oil palms in Indonesia), historical and recent production of potatoes, onions and geraniums (Pelargonium) in Germany, horticultural plant-physiology and applied vegetation science.
  • Lecturer, Institut für Biologie, Systematische Botanik & Pflanzengeographie: Lectures and various courses in Fundamental & Systematic Botany, vegetation sciences, etc.

 

Curriculum:

Born in Passau (Bavaria). University studies in botany, zoology, and ecology. 1992-1994 PhD study (granted by NaFöG and DAAD). 1995-1997 Research Assistant, BRYOSTRAT Project, Peru (DFG; Prof. Dr H. Kürschner, Systematische Botanik & Pflanzengeographie, FU Berlin). 1997-1999 Free-lance consultant (fauna, flora, vegetation and landscape-ecology in Berlin and Brandenburg) and Project Assistant the BGBM. 1999-2001 DFG research grant; performance of the "PONTAURUS Project". 2001-2004 Research Assistant, DFG-research group "Functional aspects in a tropical rainforest in S Ecuador: Diversity, dynamic processes and potentials of use from an ecosystem viewpoint", subproject "Life strategies and adaptations of epiphytic bryophytes" (Prof. Dr. H. Kürschner). 2001-2009 Associate Editor, Turkish Journal of Botany. 2004-2006 Short Time Expert, EU-Twinning Project "Capacity Building in the Field of Environment for Turkey, Component 3 Nature". Since 2001 Lecturer (partly as guest docent), University of Applied Sciences. Since WS 2006-2008 (Lecturer guest docent), Institut für Biologie, Systematische Botanik & Pflanzengeographie, FU Berlin. 2008-2010 Research Assistant, PESI Project (Prof. Dr W. Berendsohn) at the BGBM and Institute of Biologie, Systematische Botanik & Pflanzengeographie (Prof. Dr. H.H. Hilger). Since 2011 Curator, BGBM.

  • "PONTAURUS project" ("Sippendifferenzierung und Evolution in ausgewählten Vegetationseinheiten der Hochlagen arider und humider Gebirge in Vorderasien (Taurus und Pontisches Hochgebirge)", funded by Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft.
  • Geobotany of SW Asia and the Mediterranean region, with a particular focus on the high mountain flora and vegetation.
  • Plant biodiversity of the Caucasus.
  • Plant biodiversity in Mediterranean and Irano-Turanian ecosystems (vascular plants and bryophytes); speciation and distribution patterns.
  • Theoretical and applied phytosociology.
  • Life strategies of bryophytes and angiosperms.
  • Diversity, ecosociology, and evolution of tropical epiphytic and Mediterranean bryophytes.
  • Floral and dispersal biology.
  • Mediterranean orchids.
