Flora Brasiliensis On-Line and Revisited
The first of these activities presented in the exhibition comprises two large
projects: the Flora Brasiliensis On-Line and the Flora Brasiliensis Revisited.
The Flora Brasiliensis On-Line has made available on the internet the records of
more than 22 thousand plant species described by the German botanist Carl
Philipp von Martius in the work Flora Brasiliensis, edited in the period between
1840 and 1906, and the 3,811 illustrations of Brazilian species.
The Flora Brasiliensis Revisited project undertakes the updating of the
nomenclature used in the original work of Martius and collaborators – which even
today is a reference for botanical studies throughout the world – and the
inclusion of species described since its publication, with new information and
recent illustrations.
