FAPESP
The State of São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) is
the funding agency promoting scientific and technological
research in the State of São Paulo. By means of awarding
grants, in various modalities, and financial awards to
research, it supports fundamental research and research
geared to objectives of national relevance, contributing to
the advance and the dissemination of knowledge and to the
education and advanced training of researchers.
Created in 1962, and receiving in resources guaranteed by
the State Constitution, 1 per cent of the tax receipts of
the state of São Paulo, complemented by its own resources,
FAPESP has already supported, over these 46 years, 89,000
grants and 80,000 financial awards.
In 2007, the Foundation paid out 210 million euros by way of
funding of grants and financial awards for research in every
area of knowledge. Of this total, 69 million euros were
dedicated to the payment of grants for the training of
scientists from scientific initiation up to post-doctoral
level, 80 million euros on awards for research and 60
million euros on Special Programs and Research for
Technological Innovation.
