PhD ibidem (1977). 1978-1980: Scientific Assistant, Institute of Plant Systematics & Morphology, University of Kassel/Germany. 1980-1983: Curator, 1983 to present: Senior Curator, Botanical Garden & Botanical Museum Berlin-Dahlem, Free University of Berlin, Germany.

Research interests and projects:

  • Taxonomy, biogeography and ecology of vascular plants in the Mediterranean, in particular Campanuleae (Campanulaceae), Cisteae (Cistaceae), Pedicularieae (Orobanchaceae), Verbasceae (Scrophulariaceae).
  • Plant biodiversity of Greece and the Aegean. Current: regional floras/annotated checklists of selected Aegean islands, the Central Peloponnese, Northwestern Epirus and Eastern Thessaly.
  • Med-Checklist: a critical inventory of vascular plants of the circum-mediterranean countries (edited by Prof. W. Greuter, Berlin, et al.): Regional adviser (Greece) and co-editing the series Med-Checklist notulae (with Prof. W. Greuter, Berlin).
  • Flora Hellenica (based at botanical institutions in Patras/Greece [UPA], Copenhagen/Denmark [C], Lund/Sweden [LD] and Berlin-Dahlem [B]). Allocated accounts of: Adoxaceae (Adoxa); Boraginaceae (Amsinckia, Asperugo, Borago, Cerinthe, Lappula, Rochelia); Cistaceae (Cistus, Fumana, Halimium, Helianthemum, Tuberaria);Lamiaceae (Galeopsis, Glechoma, Leonurus, Phlomis, Prunella); Linderniaceae (Lindernia); Menyanthaceae (Menyanthes, Nymphoides); Orobanchaceae (Bartsia, Lathraea, Lesquereuxia,Melampyrum, Parentucellia, Pedicularis, Rhynchocorys, Tozzia); Phrymaceae (Mimulus); Plantaginaceae (Bacopa, Digitalis, Gratiola, Sibthorpia); Scrophulariaceae (Limosella); Solanaceae (Atropa, Hyoscyamus, Physalis).
  • The lichen flora of selected Aegean islands (Greece) and their phytogeographical and historical significance, in collaboration with Dr. H. Sipman; inventories of Ikaria, Kalimnos, Kos, Nisiros, Telendos, Paros & Antiparos, SE Euboia and the Santorini island group, supported by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft.
