[Poster presentation]

The late Prof. Ferdinand Bohlmann, Technical University of Berlin, had compiled a card index of all natural substances occurring in the Compositae since the early 60es. It was entrusted to Dr. Jakupovic and transferred to an ISISBase PC database by Bohlmann's Assistant, Christa Zdero. The data are partly from Bohlmann's and Jacupovic' original research, partly they originate from a revision of the literature which is considered more or less complete. The current, flat-file format ISIS database contains a searchable image of the chemical structure, the common name of the compound, calculated molecular weight and formula, taxon or taxa from which the compound was isolated, the literature reference for the isolation and for the original publication of the compound, and various notes. Within a project financed by the German Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), this database will be transformed into a relational system (MS-Access with Accord, an add-in allowing to search for substructures). This will allow flexible linking to external data (taxonomic and chemical). The data will be revised in the course of the project and made available by means of a web interface allowing an on-line search on both taxonomic and chemical data, including substructures.
