Floristic mapping data in German plant information systems

* Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN), Konstantinstr. 110, 53179 Bonn, Germany

[Poster and presentation]

The Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN) and the Organization for the Floristic Mapping of Germany have established and maintain a database containing about 14 Million mapping records. Together with their taxonomic backbone and further species related biological and ecological information these data are presented in the public accessible web-domain www.floraweb.de. This web site uses XML-XSL techniques for dynamically generated html-documents containing information from the database. It also integrates map services for dynamically generated distribution maps. XML-based wrappers provide interfaces for the information brokers of the German Environmental Information System (GEIN) and the Federal Information System of Plant Genetic Resources (BIG).
