When coming from the airport
Tegel:
For public transport there are two possibilities. The first gives you a
view of the western city center of Berlin. The second avoids the crowded city
centre.
1. Take bus line X9 or 109 to "Zoologischer Garten", change there to
the U-Bahn line U9 to "Rathaus Steglitz". Continue as above.
2. As 1, but change to the U-Bahn at Jakob-Kaiser-Platz, only few stops
from the airport. Take line U7 in the direction Rudow, until station
"Berliner Strasse". Change there for the line U9 to "Rathaus
Steglitz". Continue as described above. This connection is faster during
rush-hour.
By taxi it takes about 20 minutes (longer during rush hours) to get to
the Botanic Gardens and Botanical Museum.
Schönefeld:
You can walk (about 10 minutes) to the S-Bahn station
"Schoenefeld" or take the shuttle bus to the station. There take S-Bahn
line S9 (direction Westkreuz) or the Schönefeld Airport
Express until "Zoologischer Garten", there change to U-Bahn line U9 to
"Rathaus Steglitz". Continue as above. Second possibility: take S-Bahn
line S45 direction Westend, get off at Schöneberg, and change for S-Bahn line S1
towards Wannsee, get off at Rathaus Steglitz. Taxis from the airport take about
30 minutes.
Tempelhof:

When arriving by car:
When arriving by car on the "Autobahn" the easiest way to the Botanic
Gardens and Botanical Museum is to exit the Berlin Autobahn circle (Berliner
Ring) at exit Drewitz (near Potsdam), continue on the Autobahn
until exit Zehlendorf, then turn right.
From Zehlendorf follow the main road for about 10 km (and many traffic
lights!) until near a black multi-story building, the "Steglitzer
Kreisel".
Keep to the left of this building (Schlossstrasse) and turn left at the first traffic lights past it (Grunewaldstrasse). To get to the Wirtschaftshof, take the first street on the left (Rothenburgstrasse) and turn right at its end (Am Fichtenberg). The entrance is on the left after ca. 100 m. To get to the Museum and Herbarium building, follow the Grunewaldstrasse, then Koenigin-Luise-Strasse for about 1 km. It is the red brick building on the left hand, just before the fourth traffic light.
Leaving the Berliner Ring from other places is not recommended unless you
are arriving from the north: You should leave the Berliner Ring at Dreieck
Oranienburg and continue south. At Kreuz Reinickendorf turn right
(direction Charlottenburg, Wilmersdorf). Do not go straight ahead!
At Kreuz Charlottenburg turn right (direction Wilmersdorf)
and go straight ahead at Dreieck Funkturm (direction Wilmersdorf,
Schoeneberg). After 900 m you will get to Kreuz Wilmersdorf. From
this place you can see three large chimneys in front of you. Turn right
(direction Steglitz), follow the Autobahn and take exit Breitenbachplatz
immediately after you pass under a multi-storey residential building. Turn right
at the second traffic light (Breitenbachplatz). At the end of the square
take the first road to the left (Englerallee). It is a wide road with a
verge in the middle. When you get to the next traffic lights, you will see the
Museum and Herbarium, a red brick building, on the opposite left side. If you
want to go to the Wirtschaftshof, turn left (Koenigin-Luise-Strasse, then
Grunewaldstrasse) and continue until the third traffic light. There turn
right (Rothenburgstrasse), and turn right at the end (Am Fichtenberg).
The gate of the Wirtschaftshof is on the left after ca. 100 m.
Note: For those familiar with Berlin, shortcuts are possible, which are not
mentioned here since they are not easy to explain.
Upon arrival please ask the door-keeper to call the staff member expecting you. Unless
otherwise arranged, he/she will be awaiting you in the Museum building during presence
hours (9.00-15.00 h.).
Working hours in the Museum building are Monday-Friday 7.00-18.00
h. except holidays. At
the Wirtschaftshof entrance a door-keeper is on duty 6.00- 17.15 h. on working
days.
