Public transport in Berlin

Operating hours for most connections are about 4.30 a.m.-1.00 a.m. On Friday night and Saturday night the U-Bahn is operating until ca. 1 a.m. A few nightbuses run from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m.
For more information see the timetables available in main stations of U- and S-Bahn.

Four networks are available:

S-Bahn.
Fast connection with the city centre, northern Berlin and with the regional railway station "Wannsee". Operating at 10 minute intervals. The closest stations are "Rathaus Steglitz", in the Albrechtstrasse, and "Botanischer Garten", in the Enzianstrasse.

U-Bahn. Fastest connection with the west-city and the railway station "Zoologischer Garten". Operating at 2-5 minute intervals during daytime, at 5-10 minute intervals in the evening and on weekends. The station closest to the Wirtschaftshof is "Rathaus Steglitz" (U9). The stations "Breitenbachplatz", "Podbielskiallee" and "Dahlem-Dorf" (in the Koenigin-Luise-Strasse) (U1) and "Rathaus Steglitz" are in about equal distance from the Museum.

Buses. There is a dense network of about 160 routes, operating mostly at ten-minute-intervals Mo-Fri during daytime, and every 20 or 30 minutes in the evening and on weekends. A few buses run all night. Maps are available at U-Bahn station "Rathaus Steglitz".

Tram. The eastern part of Berlin has a tramway system of about 40 routes.

Fares. A single trip transfer-ticket is € 2.00, valid on all four networks and for any distance within the agglomeration, allowing one-way trips only (note changed rules by 1 April 2004!). Cheaper whole-day tickets, more-days-tickets, short-distance tickets or passes for one month are also available. Information at U-Bahn station "Zoologischer Garten" and "Rathaus Steglitz". For bulky luggage an extra fee is required.
Tickets are available at automatic ticket vending-machines at each S- and U-Bahn station, at counters of the larger stations, and at some newspaper shops. On busses single trip transfer-tickets are available, for the trains tickets have to be bought in advance. You may need small change, not bigger than € 10.
