Restaurants
There are several restaurants within a 10 minute walking distance from the Museum or the
Wirtschaftshof. Many are Italian style, but they also serve international dishes. Opening
hours are generally from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily including Sundays.
The Garden restaurant at the south entrance (Unter
den Eichen) is open throughout the year, a coffee shop near the greenhouses in summer
only.

Breakfast, snack bars and take-aways
The closest possibility is the breadshop opposite the Museum building in the Altensteinstrasse, which serves also sandwiches, coffee and cold drinks.
A more complete breakfast is found in a little snack bar in Schlossstrasse 54.
Other snack bars and take-aways are numerous along the Schlossstrasse; the
closest is at the gas station, few minutes on the way from the guestrooms to the
Schlosstrasse..
Shopping and public services
Shopping
Opening hours are generally Mo-Fri 9 a.m.-8 p.m., Sat 9 a.m.-1 p.m. For the large
department stores opening hours are 9.30 a.m.-8.00 p.m. and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. respectively.
Supermarkets may open already at 8 a.m. Newspaper stands generally open at 7 a.m. On the
first Saturday of the month many non-food shops and department stores are open until 6
p.m. in summer and until 4 p.m. in winter. On Sundays all shops are closed, except the
newspaper stands, which open from 8-12 a.m., and bakeries, which may open a few hours.
A major shopping area is in the Schlossstrasse between Hermann-Ehlers-Platz and
Walter-Schreiber-Platz. There are department stores, supermarkets, and special shops for
clothing, footwear, fresh food, delicatessen, opticial and photographic utensils, writing
materials, etc.
Banks
Opening hours generally Mo-Fri 9 a.m.-5. p.m.
There are several banks in the Schlossstrasse, close to the Hermann-Ehlers-Platz. Money
can be exchanged (cheques and cash) out of banking hours at station "Zoologischer
Garten", next to the main entrance. This office is open from Mo to Sat 8 a.m. to 9
p.m., and on Sunday until 6 p.m.

guest-rooms is a small supermarket at Asternplatz.

Recreation
There are many museums, restaurants and theatres in Berlin. Information can be obtained at
the tourist office in the Europa-Center, Breitscheidplatz, or by buying the
BERLIN-PROGRAMM, a broschure published monthly and available on newspaper stands. Close to
the Botanical Museum is the very interesting "Museum Dahlem", with entrances at
Arnimallee 23-27 and Lansstr. 8. It contains a combination of museums for ethnography,
East-Asiatic, Islamic, and Indian art. Opening hours: 9 a.m. -
5 p.m. Closed Mondays.
Most movies are dubbed in German. For English language movies try: Odeon, Hauptstr.
116, Berlin-Schoeneberg (Bus 148).
